The Language Situation in Georgia 

 
 
The aim of the project is to throw light on the language situation in one of the Transcaucasian republics: Georgia. 

An intersting object of research is the fact that two major languages - Georgian and Russian - for a long time have been competing in different spheres of society along side with a number of other languages with different status, different writing systems, different religions. 

The languages include Indoeuropean: Armenian, Ossetic, Greek, Kurdish.Turkic: Azerbaijani. West Caucasian: Abkhaz. East Caucasian: Tsova tush, Chechen, Lezgian. Kartvelian: Megrelian and Svan.
